About the position
The Forklift Operator is a crucial role within our warehouse operations, responsible for the safe and efficient handling of merchandise using a forklift. This position involves a variety of tasks including moving, locating, relocating, stacking, and counting products. The operator must ensure that all operations are conducted in compliance with safety standards and company policies. In addition to operating the forklift, the operator may also be required to perform duties related to order filling and checking, which are essential for maintaining the flow of goods in and out of the warehouse. The role encompasses several general duties and responsibilities that are vital for the smooth operation of the warehouse. This includes receiving and putting away shipments, where the operator is expected to unload inbound shipments safely and efficiently, stacking and storing merchandise in an organized manner. Quality control is also a significant aspect of the job; the operator must ensure that all shipments, both inbound and outbound, are accurate and free from damage before loading or unloading. Order picking is another critical responsibility, where the operator must pull and prepare products for shipment, ensuring that the correct number and type of products are loaded and shipped. Loading involves efficiently moving products from staging or storage areas into trailers, which requires attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols. The operator will also be responsible for daily inspections and minor maintenance of the forklift and other equipment used in the warehouse. Keeping accurate records and reports is essential for maintaining tight inventory control and security. The operator will assist in physical inventory counts and ensure proper stock rotation to prevent product spoilage or obsolescence. Safety, sanitation, and security are paramount in this role. The operator must maintain a clean and orderly work area, assist in securing the warehouse, and conduct operations in a manner that promotes safety. Compliance with OSHA and MSDS standards is mandatory to ensure a safe working environment for all employees.
Responsibilities
- Unload inbound shipments safely and efficiently, stacking and storing merchandise.
- Ensure that inbound and outbound shipments are accurate and free of damage before loading/unloading.
- Pull and prepare products for shipment, ensuring the correct number and type of products are loaded and shipped.
- Efficiently move products from staging and/or storage areas into trailers.
- Load, unload, move, stack, and stage products and materials using a forklift or other power equipment.
- Inspect and perform minor maintenance on the forklift or other equipment daily.
- Keep appropriate records and reports to maintain tight inventory control and security.
- Assist in physical inventory counts and ensure proper stock rotation.
- Maintain a clean, neat, and orderly work area and assist in maintaining warehouse security.
- Conduct operations in a manner that promotes safety and comply with OSHA and MSDS standards.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED preferred but not required.
- Certification Test Required.
