About the position

Wieland is seeking a Forklift Operator, Utility to support plant operations by facilitating the flow of materials from raw materials to finished products. This entry-level position involves operating light mobile equipment, performing inspections, and assisting in maintenance work to minimize downtime. The role is fully on-site in East Alton, IL, and requires adherence to safety regulations and collaboration with team members to achieve departmental goals.

Responsibilities

  • Safely maneuver motorized material handling equipment in accordance with company health and safety regulations.
  • Ensure all equipment is maintained and used in accordance with company health and safety regulations and report service requests as needed.
  • Ensure equipment is properly positioned before turning it on and off or loading and unloading it.
  • Safely select product with a higher degree of accuracy.
  • Follow direction of department leader(s).
  • Collaborate with team members to achieve department goals.
  • Efficiently move and load product from staging and/or storage areas into trailers.
  • Perform routine inspection of work area to ensure sites are kept clean and safe.
  • Properly follow company and OSHA safety procedures.
  • Bring problems to the attention of the Supervisor, Safety or HR.
  • Follow Daily Procedures & Protocols as set forth in job orientations and trainings.
  • Attend meetings and refresher courses to ensure responsible equipment operation.
  • Work in other departments as needed.
  • Perform General Laborer tasks as required.
  • Participate daily with general housekeeping of warehouse and work area.
  • Perform routine inspections of product as needed.
  • Operation of drum cleaning equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of hazards and safety precautions common to forklift operations.
  • Adherence to health and safety regulations (e.g. constant use of protective gear).
  • Ability to read and understand packaging and shipping documents.
  • Ability to read a tape measure and capability to read a vernier caliper.
  • Sit for extended periods of time.
  • Stand for extended periods, walk and reach with hands or arms.
  • Occasionally stoop, kneel or crouch.
  • Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.
  • Lift up to fifty (50) pounds occasionally.
  • Use hands and fingers to handle, touch or manipulate items.
  • Demonstrate good judgement and ask questions as needed.
  • Attentive to detail and alert at all times to ensure safety.
  • Maintains safety as a high priority in all aspects of responsibility.
  • Have vision abilities to include proximate vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • High School Diploma or equivalency.
  • Three years of manufacturing experience or heavy labor experience.
