Saint Mary's Hall is seeking an outstanding middle school physical science teacher, with a focus on chemistry, to serve as a long-term substitute for our eighth-grade students. The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor of Arts in Science, with advanced degrees preferred, and hold a secondary teaching certification or have completed graduate work in education. A passion for the subject matter and a commitment to working with bright, motivated middle school students in a rigorous, college-preparatory environment is essential. Successful teaching experience in middle school is preferred, along with a strong background and professional development experience in teaching physical science with laboratory applications. Experience in vertical team collaboration is also preferred. In this role, the teacher will be responsible for teaching four physical science classes to eighth-grade students. Additionally, the teacher will serve as an advisor to a small group of eighth-grade students, overseeing their academic progress and facilitating communication with their parents. The teacher will also assume various faculty duties as assigned by the Middle School Division Head, which may include sponsoring interest or leadership groups, supervising recess, and chaperoning overnight and day field trips. Effective communication is crucial, as the teacher will need to interact verbally and in writing with parents, colleagues, staff, and administration. The teacher will work collaboratively in Form Level team planning to facilitate horizontal lesson implementation and Form Level activities, such as field trips and experiential education. Participation in meetings of the Science Vertical Team, Middle School Science Department, and eighth-grade team is also required. The candidate must align with the school's mission and values, contributing positively to the school community.
