The Formula & Milk Technician position at Phoenix Children's Hospital is a part-time role that requires the technician to work a minimum of 2 shifts per week, totaling between 20 to 24 hours. The shifts are scheduled during the day with varied start times, and the role includes rotating weekends and holidays, but does not require any night or overnight shifts. The technician will be responsible for a variety of tasks related to the preparation, distribution, inventory, and management of Human Milk (HM), Donor Milk (DM), and formula. This position is crucial in ensuring that the nutritional needs of patients are met with the highest standards of safety and quality. In this role, the technician will handle human milk and formula using aseptic techniques that comply with all sanitary regulations and standards established by the hospital, including HACCP and patient safety policies. Responsibilities include delivering and picking up milk and formula to individual rooms, verifying feeding orders with registered dietitians or other designated medical staff to ensure accuracy, and communicating effectively with lactation consultants, nurses, and parents to ensure that milk or formula is accurately utilized, prepared, and stored. The technician will also monitor daily inventory, which involves checking expiration dates, restocking units, rotating stock, and ordering additional supplies as needed. The technician will participate in various in-service programs, meetings, and conferences to enhance their skills and knowledge. They are expected to maintain cleanliness and sanitation of all utensils, workstations, and supplies, and work cooperatively with other departments to continuously improve the quality of services provided. Excellent customer service is essential, and the technician must adapt to unanticipated requests while treating all information and data with confidentiality and security. A working knowledge of technical terminologies and classifications relevant to the job duties is also required, along with adherence to the policies and procedures outlined for the hospital, department, and Nutrition Lab.
