About the position

The Foundations Drill Crew position at MnDOT involves assisting in field operations for the Foundations Unit, focusing on the investigation of subsurface soil, rock, and groundwater properties at transportation-related sites across Minnesota. The role requires operating soil testing and sampling equipment safely and efficiently, maintaining support vehicles and drilling equipment, and conducting investigations through testing and sample collection.

Responsibilities

• Assist in performing field operations of the Foundations Unit.
• Operate soil testing and sampling equipment safely and efficiently.
• Transport vehicles and heavy equipment to various sites.
• Maintain support vehicles and drilling equipment for subsurface investigation activities.
• Investigate subsurface conditions through testing and sample collection.

Requirements

• A valid Class A CDL with no air brake restriction AND a tanker endorsement.
• Two years of experience performing soils or materials testing related activities, OR one year of experience performing materials testing and one year in roadway construction or engineering support.
• Working knowledge of English sufficient to communicate effectively and maintain routine written logs.
• Experience operating heavy equipment such as drill rigs, auger trucks, and Vac Trucks.

Nice-to-haves

• Two-year Civil or Construction Technology Degree or equivalent four-year degrees in Architectural, Civil or Mechanical Engineering; Land Surveying / Geomatics.
