About the position

The Project Engineer will join the Fourmile Project Team at Barrick Gold, contributing to the development of a world-class underground mining asset. This role involves collaboration with diverse technical specialists to ensure safe and efficient project execution, focusing on project economics, scheduling, and compliance with safety and environmental standards.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Project Manager with the safe execution of project construction and development activities.
  • Work cooperatively with operations and engineering colleagues to develop project economics and track project status and costs.
  • Be a key contributor to the development of a world-class underground asset from pre-feasibility through to operation.
  • Maintain the study project budget, execution schedules, and cost accounting.
  • Assist in mine planning and deliver plan compliance through short-term interval control.
  • Plan and execute infrastructure items.
  • Review contractor invoices, develop contracts, source materials, generate requisitions, and procure consumables.
  • Identify and implement business improvement opportunities related to project development.
  • Assist mine engineers with mine designs, schedules, and costing to incorporate the impact of model and design changes into project forecasts and budgets.
  • Work closely with various departments to research, analyze, and provide supporting documents for project scopes.
  • Incorporate a safety mindset in all tasks performed, reducing risk in designs and plans, and perform Planned General Inspections (PGIs) of work areas.
  • Assist in the development and adherence to ground support standards, providing training as necessary.
  • Participate in ground support audits, pull testing, and sampling and testing shotcrete, grout, and resin.
  • Assist the Environmental/Permitting group in obtaining required permits to prevent delays in project execution.
  • Research and provide information for inclusion in project scopes of work, subsequent contracts, and procurement orders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mine Engineering or a related field with equivalent experience required.
  • 5 years of experience in mine scheduling and cost analysis required.
  • Technical communication and presentation skills required.
  • Experience in the mining or heavy mineral industry required.
