About the position

As an FP&A (Financial Planning & Analysis) Analyst at DQE Communications, you will play a crucial role in driving financial performance and strategic decision-making through insightful analysis and forecasting. DQE Communications, headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is a fiber-optic Internet and data network access provider for businesses and carriers in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland, and Ohio. Established in 1997 as a division of the Duquesne Light Company, DQE has grown significantly from its origins as a dark fiber infrastructure provider to become one of the leading regional providers of secure, reliable data network services. With a renewed focus on growth following its recent sale to GI Partners, you will be instrumental in increasing penetration within the current footprint and expanding the network reach. In this role, you will collaborate with business unit leaders to develop annual budgets and forecasts, assist in the preparation of long-term financial plans, and conduct in-depth analysis of financial and operational data to identify trends, opportunities, and risks. You will prepare and present financial reports, including monthly and quarterly management reports, and evaluate the financial impact of business initiatives and investment opportunities. Your responsibilities will also include developing and maintaining financial models to support forecasting and decision-making, continuously refining forecasting methodologies, and establishing key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess business performance. You will work closely with various departments, including Finance, Operations, Sales, and Marketing, to understand business drivers and support cross-functional initiatives, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting in partnership with accounting teams.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with business unit leaders to develop annual budgets and forecasts.
  • Assist in the preparation of long-term financial plans and strategic financial analyses.
  • Monitor budget variances and provide recommendations for corrective actions as needed.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis of financial and operational data to identify trends, opportunities, and risks.
  • Prepare and present financial reports, including monthly/quarterly management reports and ad-hoc analyses.
  • Evaluate the financial impact of business initiatives and investment opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain financial models to support forecasting, scenario analysis, and decision-making.
  • Continuously refine forecasting methodologies to improve accuracy and relevance.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial forecasts for senior management and external stakeholders.
  • Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and benchmarks to assess business performance.
  • Track and analyze financial and operational metrics to measure progress against targets.
  • Provide insights into drivers of performance and opportunities for improvement.
  • Work closely with various departments, including Finance, Operations, Sales, and Marketing, to understand business drivers and support cross-functional initiatives.
  • Partner with accounting teams to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Support strategic initiatives and special projects as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field required.
  • MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in financial planning and analysis, preferably in the telecommunications industry or related sectors.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and draw meaningful conclusions.
  • Proficiency in financial modeling and forecasting techniques.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, NetSuite and relevant software.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and quality of work.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
