About the position

The FPGA Developer at Idaho Scientific will be responsible for designing and developing secure system solutions through FPGA IP cores and embedded software. This role involves working on novel CPU designs and system-on-a-chip architectures, contributing to military systems' safety and security. The position emphasizes collaboration and individual contributions throughout the product design life cycle, from architecture to verification.

Responsibilities

  • Develop specifications for FPGA IP Cores
  • Develop FPGA IP cores using VHDL
  • Develop embedded software using C for FPGA SoC designs
  • Develop simulation test benches
  • Participate in all aspects of the product design life cycle including system architecture, design, development, and verification
  • Document design and results
  • Work individually and with a team to complete tasks

Requirements

  • US Citizenship
  • Ability to get a security clearance
  • Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field
  • Ability to clearly capture complex technical concepts in writing for both technical and general audiences
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • More than 3 years of relevant professional experience
  • Proven FPGA RTL development experience with a strong body of work in VHDL or Verilog development
  • Fluent in VHDL or Verilog hardware description languages
  • Fluent in embedded C or C++ programming
  • Experience developing test bench simulations
  • Experience with Xilinx Vivado and/or Altera Quartus software
  • Strong understanding of computer architecture

Nice-to-haves

  • Active US Security Clearance
  • Working knowledge of applied cryptography
  • Experience applying principles of cyber security to operational technology and embedded systems
  • Experience reverse engineering hardware and software
  • Knowledge of secure boot process
  • Experience developing RISC-V or other CPU microarchitectures
  • Experience developing PCI express or DDR controllers
