About the position

The FPGA Development Intern position at Ciena offers a unique opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in the design, testing, and support of optical networking products. This role emphasizes early career development through mentorship and a structured FPGA curriculum, allowing interns to work on real projects in a collaborative environment. The internship is set for a four-month term from January 2025 to May 2025, focusing on FPGA design and verification methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the design, test, and support of optical networking products.
  • Learn FPGA design using SystemVerilog for various FPGA platforms.
  • Engage in FPGA verification using Universal Verification Methodology (UVM).
  • Contribute to technical documentation writing and datasheet analysis.
  • Understand the life cycle of an FPGA design from concept to release.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Foundational knowledge of circuit design and digital logic.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with hardware description languages such as Verilog or SystemVerilog.
  • Experience with scripting and command languages such as Python, TCL, or Bash.
  • Knowledge of FPGA development tools such as Questa, VCS, Quartus, or Vivado.
