About the position

The Fraud Analyst position at the South Carolina Department of Revenue (SCDOR) involves examining Individual Income Tax returns to identify potential fraudulent activities. The role requires a strong understanding of tax laws and regulations, as well as the ability to communicate effectively with taxpayers. The position supports the mission of the SCDOR by ensuring the integrity of taxpayer data and contributing to the overall success of the department.

Responsibilities

  • Review and process returns on the fraud edit list to identify potential fraudulent returns.
  • Correspond with taxpayers regarding their returns and research additional fraudulent leads.
  • Make online adjustments to the system to generate fraud assessments and letters.
  • Prepare referrals for the SCDOR Criminal Investigations Division, including gathering data and writing reports.
  • Receive and research phone calls from taxpayers and other employees reporting tax issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with multiple accounting courses or a bachelor's degree and one year of experience in accounting, auditing, finance, insurance, or tax preparation and/or analysis.
  • Associate's degree with three years of experience in accounting, auditing, finance, insurance, or tax preparation and/or analysis.
  • Relevant experience or education may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Nice-to-haves
