About the position

The Fraud Risk Analyst 1 position at Hancock Bank is focused on minimizing financial losses by identifying potential fraud through the review of reports and alerts generated by various software systems. The role involves investigating suspect transactions, taking immediate actions to mitigate risks, and collaborating with different business units to resolve fraud-related matters effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Review alerts on reports generated from multiple software systems, including check fraud, deposit fraud, wire, and ACH fraud.
  • Conduct reviews on internal referrals as assigned from other departments and the Bank's SAR Memo Referral process.
  • Exercise independent judgment while examining, identifying, and documenting fraudulent or account activity behaviors.
  • Utilize Bank software systems and the internet for research as needed.
  • Take immediate action to mitigate losses, including returning checks and placing holds on accounts.
  • Complete bank official forms to close bank cards and cease ACH activity.
  • Communicate findings to relationship officers and provide support to branch and department personnel regarding fraud prevention.
  • Complete internal fraud referral forms for Level 2 investigations and maintain production and tracking reports through Excel.
  • Assist with projects and systems testing to ensure functionality with system upgrades.
  • Adhere to compliance regulations related to bank fraud and loss prevention.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Associate's degree desired, or equivalent work experience.
  • Two to four years of related banking experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Some branch banking experience preferred.
  • Experience with Regulation CC and placing holds.
  • Experienced in composing documents, summaries, or letters.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Word and Excel.
  • Knowledge of banking operations, checks, deposits, wire, and ACH transactions.
  • Basic knowledge of fraud and kite schemes.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing using the English language.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in fraud detection and prevention strategies.
  • Familiarity with Bank Secrecy Act and compliance regulations.
