About the position

The Decision Science Analyst at USAA plays a crucial role in providing decision support across the enterprise, focusing on fraud analytics. This position involves applying advanced mathematical and statistical techniques to analyze data, draw conclusions, and make actionable recommendations that drive business strategy and change. The analyst will collaborate with cross-functional teams, utilize innovative analytical approaches, and communicate findings effectively to influence senior management and support the organization's mission of facilitating financial security for military members and their families.

Responsibilities

  • Leverage expert business, analytical, and technical knowledge to lead discussions with cross-functional teams.
  • Apply advanced analytical techniques to solve large-scale business problems with significant impact.
  • Organize and oversee the development of requirements/resources necessary to meet established objectives.
  • Translate recommendations into communication materials for all levels of management.
  • Incorporate visualization techniques to support analysis and ease understanding for less technical audiences.
  • Identify and gather relevant and quality data sources to address business problems.
  • Integrate and transform disparate data sources, applying appropriate data hygiene techniques.
  • Document assumptions, methodology, validation, and testing for peer reviews and compliance.
  • Monitor and adopt emerging technology affecting scientific methodologies and quantitative approaches.
  • Deliver complex analysis/findings succinctly to influence business decisions and strategy.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in operationalizing recommendations.
  • Research and pursue industry-leading practices in data and analytics to advance community knowledge.
  • Identify opportunities for continued learning in data and analytics.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative analytics field or 4 years of related experience in lieu of a degree.
  • 8 years of data & analytics experience or 6 years with 2 years of progressive functional business experience.
  • Advanced degree in a quantitative analytics field with 6 years of relevant experience.
  • 3 years of direct and/or indirect management experience.
  • Expert skills in mathematical and statistical techniques for decision-making.
  • Expert knowledge of data analysis tools, SQL, SAS, BI tools, and relevant industry data.

Nice-to-haves

  • Several years working on a fraud analytics team with responsibility for fraud losses.
  • Subject Matter Expert in multiple product areas with experience in fraud prevention strategies.
  • Experience in multiple coding languages (SQL, SAS, Python) and visualization tools (Tableau).
  • Proven thought leadership in developing strategies to combat fraud.
