About the position

The Fred Young Hearst Television Producing Fellowship is a 12-week, paid fellowship program at a Hearst Television station, dedicated to the legacy of Fred Young, who worked for Hearst for over 40 years producing impactful and award-winning stories. As a producer, you'll play an important role in helping to find and capture stories similar to those Fred did. The program includes learning from senior leaders, tackling real projects, and receiving mentoring designed to kickstart your career path. Upon successful completion of the program, you will be offered a full-time newscast producing position at one of Hearst's stations. During the fellowship, you will be paid approximately $769 per week and will be responsible for your own housing, although the station will assist in identifying local housing options.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated interest in and ability to produce news for television, radio, or online.
  • Excellent writing skills and a demonstrated ability to produce a newscast.
  • Good base of editorial judgment.
  • Strong academic record.
  • Two recommendations from faculty or internship supervisors.
  • Completion of senior year of college or graduate school, graduating in May 2024.
  • Willingness to spend up to 12 weeks post-graduation at a Hearst Television station and to relocate after the program.
