About the position

The Data Engineer 3 position at FreeWheel involves building and evolving audience and identity data platforms that handle large-scale data processing. The role requires collaboration with various teams to develop cloud-native data solutions, utilizing cutting-edge technologies and AWS services. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software development, big data processing, and a passion for solving complex problems in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate with project stakeholders to identify product and technical requirements.
  • Build data services for audience targeting within the advertising delivery system.
  • Link and integrate various user data silos through data integration, big data processing, and analysis.
  • Analyze and refine business processes and requirements, implementing and optimizing products to support rapid business growth.
  • Utilize AWS services and other tools to store, process, and deliver near real-time data.
  • Support and troubleshoot data and/or system issues, collaborating with external teams to resolve data quality issues.
  • Develop in-house tools to automate common tasks.
  • Wrangle large amounts of data using Apache Spark and other tools.
  • Conduct code and design reviews to ensure high product quality.
  • Collaborate with Data Science and Data Operations teams to translate complex product requirements into working solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior Software Development Engineers.
  • Share learnings with wider engineering teams through technical demos.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or a related field.
  • 2-3+ years of hands-on experience in software development and big data (Spark).
  • Proficient in coding with Scala, Java, Python, and Golang (nice to have).
  • Experience with CI/CD tools, preferably Jenkins.
  • Strong skills in SQL and experience with major database platforms.
  • Familiarity with shell scripting and command line operations.
  • Versatile problem solver with a solid foundation in data structures, algorithms, and system design.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills, with good team collaboration skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in the media or advertising industry.
  • AWS certification and experience with AWS services like S3, EMR, EKS, Glue, EC2, IAM, Cloudformation, Athena, Lambda.
  • Experience with graph databases (GraphX, Neo4J) and related analysis.
  • Experience with Kubernetes, Terraform, and ELK.
  • Experience with Snowflake.
