About the position
Myers Education Press is seeking a Freelance Book Cover Designer to create original designs for textbooks and library books. This remote position is ideal for artists who can work from home and are capable of handling multiple assignments efficiently. The role involves creating book covers that align with the preferences of authors and publishers, with a focus on quality and timely delivery.
Responsibilities
- Create original book cover designs based on initial assignments and design preferences.
- Provide 1-2 variations of the initial design for review.
- Make revisions based on feedback from the publisher and deliver a finished front cover in PDF format.
- Create a full cover mechanical (front cover, spine, back cover) from supplied content at a later stage of production.
- Supply a set of PDFs and native InDesign INDD files once the design is proofread and approved.
Requirements
- Proven record as a designer with a strong design portfolio.
- Experience in designing book covers is preferred.
- Subscription to an art service, such as iStock or other permissions-free or Creative Commons-licensed database of images.
- Ability to provide barcodes for each assignment.
- Experience in researching appropriate artwork to match author and publisher preferences.
- Current InDesign software (no other software can be substituted).
- Ability to turn assignments around quickly and efficiently.
