About the position

The Freelance Interpreter/Translator position involves providing interpretation services in medical, legal, and educational settings. The role requires a professional attitude, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work with diverse languages and cultures. This part-time, contract position allows interpreters to choose their own hours and work on an as-needed basis, primarily in the Orange County area.

Responsibilities

• Provide complete and accurate interpretations for patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
• Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and render unbiased interpretations to ensure an accurate exchange of information.
• Agree and comply with all privacy and confidentiality policies.
• Maintain professional distance and integrity during interpretations.
• Interpret in all three modes of interpreting: sight translation, consecutive, and simultaneous.

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years previous experience in interpretation or translation.
• Previous specialized training(s) in interpretation or translation.
• CCHI or NBCMI certification if applicable (for Interpreters only).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and the target language.
• Professional attitude and great customer service skills.
• Must be valid to work in the U.S.

Nice-to-haves

• Foreign study or degrees in specified language is acceptable.
• Ability to interpret in multiple languages such as Vietnamese, Mandarin, Spanish, Portuguese, Farsi, Arabic, ASL, and Mixteco.
