About the position

The Sanitation Associate at UNFI is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and hygiene within the distribution center. This role involves routine cleaning tasks, minor maintenance, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. The position is essential for supporting the overall operations of the warehouse and ensuring a safe working environment for all employees.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine cleaning including vacuuming, sweeping, and mopping floors.
• Dust, wash walls, doors, and windows, and empty trash.
• Operate floor scrubber and other janitorial equipment.
• Sweep and vacuum dock plates and sanitation barriers.
• Empty trash bins from all locations including cooler, grocery, loading dock, offices, and break areas.
• Manage cardboard and plastic recycling and compacting.
• Keep all areas free of debris such as wood fragments, pallet wrap, labels, and paper.
• Remove empty pallets and clean and mop slots.
• Discard leaking products and record on the reconditioning log.
• Report any violation of company policy to supervisor or lead.
• Perform duties in accordance with HACCP and SQF policies and procedures.

Requirements

• Understanding of safety guidelines.
• Ability to operate cleaning equipment such as floor scrubbers.
• Preferred experience in warehouse/operations.

Nice-to-haves

• Good judgment for independent work situations.
• Understanding of procedures in other areas of the warehouse.
