About the position

The Freight Claims Specialist at KCH Transportation is responsible for managing and resolving freight claims related to overages, shortages, and damages. This role requires strong analytical and investigative skills to ensure efficient resolution of claims while coordinating with various stakeholders, including internal departments, carriers, and customers. The position is office-based and operates Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM EST.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and resolve freight claims ranging from minor to complex cargo and property damage.
  • Collect and review all necessary documentation to support claims, including bills of lading, inspection reports, and photographs.
  • File, investigate, and follow up on claims with carriers, ensuring timely resolution.
  • Act as the primary liaison between KCH Transportation, customers, and carriers to address issues and provide prompt solutions.
  • Collaborate with carriers, adjusters, attorneys, and insurance representatives during claim investigations.
  • Assess claims for subrogation opportunities and escalate as needed to protect company interests.
  • Maintain clear and concise communication with insurance companies, agents, and customers regarding claim statuses.
  • Coordinate closely with the Accounting Department to ensure proper recording, payment processing, and claim accruals.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory standards, including DOT/FMCSA guidelines.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Strong analytical skills to identify problems, make recommendations, and execute solutions under tight deadlines.
  • Solid understanding of DOT/FMCSA rules and regulations.
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Excellent time management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines consistently.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to foster collaboration across departments.
