The Freight Operations Coordinator plays a crucial role in analyzing existing freight rates, tariff regulations, and any proposed or government-approved changes in rates. This position is essential for revising the company's rate schedules and recommending changes in methods or modes of shipping materials to minimize transportation costs. Under general supervision, the coordinator will engage in a variety of tasks that require a keen understanding of shipping logistics and regulatory compliance. The coordinator will analyze proposals and applications for changes in rates, rules, or regulations received from shippers. This involves reviewing regulations and decisions made by regulatory agencies regarding applications filed by other carriers. The goal is to determine the necessary changes in the company's rate charts to ensure compliance and efficiency. Additionally, the coordinator will assist marketing and purchasing efforts to meet customer delivery needs, which includes routing inventory, selecting carriers, managing transportation costs, and handling rush deliveries and loss/damage claims. Maintaining accurate freight documentation is another critical responsibility. The coordinator will keep records in paper logs or a computer database application to track, analyze, and report on costs and preferred providers. This recordkeeping is essential for providing the reporting data required by regulatory agencies. The coordinator will also ensure that proper rates and classifications are applied and will take corrective action when necessary. Regular communication with shippers to discuss revised rates, rules, and regulations is also part of the role. The coordinator will prepare revised rate schedules for various departments and must plan and pace their work efficiently to meet productivity goals.
