About the position

The Freight Revenue Auditor I/II position at the Alaska Railroad Corporation is responsible for ensuring the timely and accurate production of freight bills by monitoring and rating freight movements across various online systems. This role involves generating freight payables and resolving discrepancies related to billing, while maintaining customer contract files and ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Audit and rate commodity freight bills according to rate tables, tariff regulations, and external client contracts.
  • Administer and issue incidental, demurrage, transloading, and accessorial charges or other miscellaneous invoices as required.
  • Respond to customer inquiries and resolve discrepancies by telephone, in person, or by correspondence.
  • Investigate customer overcharge claims and prepare adjustments when necessary.
  • Compile and compute freight payments; prepare monthly reconciliations and ensure general ledger entries are in agreement.
  • Prepare general ledger journal entries to ensure freight revenue is recorded in accordance with GAAP on a monthly and annual basis.
  • Function as the subject matter expert (SME) on freight billing and associated systems.
  • Work within JD Edwards Financial System to verify totals of previous day's work and perform other duties within the unit and system.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in accounting and three years of experience rating and auditing transportation movement using tariffs and contracts.
  • Experience interpreting state and federal statutes, policies and procedures, and freight movement documents.
  • Knowledge of auditing, reconciling, data verification, and reporting procedures.
  • Proficiency in using computerized client server based applications and integrated computer software programs.
  • Strong analytical, computer skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Professional communication and interpersonal skills to deal tactfully with internal and external customers.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with JD Edwards Financial System.
  • Additional year of experience for Auditor II level.
