About the position

The Front End/Assistant Department Leader at Kroger is responsible for creating an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service while assisting the department manager in achieving sales and profit goals. This role involves supervising the Front-end department's daily operations, ensuring a safe and clean environment, and maintaining quality assurance standards. The position emphasizes teamwork, effective communication, and adherence to the company's core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Create an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service.
  • Establish and maintain a safe and clean environment.
  • Assist the department manager in reaching sales and profit goals.
  • Monitor established quality assurance standards.
  • Direct and supervise all functions, duties, and activities for the Front-end department.
  • Support day-to-day functions of the Front-end operations.
  • Assist with the execution of best practices and Front-end standards.
  • Promote trust and respect among associates.
  • Create an environment that enables customers to feel welcome and appreciated.
  • Gain and maintain knowledge of products sold within the departments.
  • Assist with monitoring and control supply expenses for the department.
  • Manage cash control, sales, and cash items and records for the store.
  • Manage scheduling of Front-end associates for adequate coverage.
  • Assist in preparing the store/department budget and profit and loss reviews.
  • Collaborate with Front-end associates and promote teamwork.
  • Stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special ads.
  • Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines.
  • Ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers are maintained.
  • Reinforce safety programs by complying with safety procedures.
  • Practice preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment and notifying management of repairs needed.
  • Report all safety risks or issues, and illegal activity.

Requirements

  • Ability to handle stressful situations.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Knowledge of basic math (counting, addition, and subtraction).
  • Retail or customer service experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Management experience.
  • Second language (speaking, reading, and/or writing).
