About the position

Squaremouth is seeking an experienced Front End Developer to enhance its web applications, focusing on WordPress, PHP, and Rails. The role involves collaborating with designers and backend developers to create responsive and accessible user interfaces, while also troubleshooting and deploying updates. Responsibilities

• Design and implement custom WordPress themes and plugins to enhance website functionality and user experience.
• Build, maintain, and optimize front-end components within our Rails applications.
• Collaborate with back-end developers and designers to create highly responsive, user-centric interfaces.
• Translate UI/UX designs into modern interfaces with efficient code using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
• Optimize front-end performance to ensure fast load times and smooth interaction.
• Ensure cross-browser compatibility, responsive design, and adherence to accessibility standards.
• Conduct code reviews and participate in the software development lifecycle.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of hands-on development experience in web application development.
• Proficient in HTML, CSS, JavaScript (including frameworks such as Bootstrap or React).
• Strong experience with WordPress theme development and plugin customization.
• Good understanding of PHP, particularly in a WordPress environment.
• Basic knowledge of Rails and working with Rails views and front-end integrations.
• Familiarity with responsive design principles, cross-browser compatibility, and web accessibility standards.
• Ability to work independently, arranging your work to meet deadlines.
• Passion for growing your skills, tackling interesting work, and challenging problems.
• Energetic, positive attitude.
• Ability to work within a team, collaborate on projects, and share responsibility.

Nice-to-haves

• BS in Computer Science or related field.
• Building large, performant web applications.
• Familiarity with front-end build tools such as Webpack, Gulp, or Grunt.
• Experience with version control systems, particularly Git.
• Knowledge of SEO best practices as they relate to front-end development.
• Experience with front-end testing frameworks.
