About the position

The Front End Driver at GFL Industries is responsible for operating front-end trucks to collect and transport waste or recyclables from various multi-family residential and commercial routes. This role involves servicing multiple customers daily, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and maintaining cleanliness at customer sites.

Responsibilities

  • Drive commercial frontload or ancillary equipment along designated routes to collect solid waste and transport it to post-collection facilities.
  • Open container enclosures or gates to access cans and roll 3-4-yard cans into position for dumping as needed.
  • Perform daily pre- and post-trip inspections and submit a vehicle condition report at the end of the shift.
  • Interact courteously with customers and the general public along the route, addressing questions or requests and notifying supervisors of issues requiring management action.
  • Clean loose trash off the truck and surrounding area to maintain a clean customer site and ensure safety along roads and highways.
  • Maintain and submit a DOT logbook, daily route/productivity sheet, and vehicle condition report as required by law or company policy.
  • Maneuver the truck into and out of minimum clearance spaces using mirrors for backing up.
  • Use a key map and GPS to locate service addresses.
  • Follow safe operating practices, including lock out/tag out procedures to ensure proper operation of the truck.
  • Monitor operations to detect loose debris and visually scan customer sites before and after dumping.
  • Adhere to all DOT, OSHA, FMCSA, and EPA regulations and standards.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED desired.
  • Possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class A or B.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Minimum one year of commercial driving experience or CDL school certificate.
  • Must meet relevant criteria for safety-sensitive functions according to company standards.
  • Demonstrate the ability to safely drive the truck and operate the equipment.

  • Knowledge of the truck and its components and basic maintenance requirements for safe operation.
  • Ability to control operations of equipment and maneuver the truck in tight spaces.
  • Ability to recognize unacceptable waste materials.
  • Effective communication skills with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend associated documents and maps.
  • Flexibility to adapt to change and commitment to continuous improvement.
