The position requires a safety and quality-minded individual who is committed to excellence in a manufacturing environment. The primary responsibility is to ensure that all safety equipment, guards, and devices are in place at all times, adhering to safe work procedures and safety rules. The role involves checking a set of cups during each shift to ensure that no problems are being created by the plant processes. Additionally, the individual will inspect coils for dents and holes during changeovers before rotating mandrels into position for threading into cups. During the changeover process, the individual will install the coil being loaded on the off mandrel in an overlap position, ensuring it faces the opposite direction. The role requires rotating the coil while the machine is in manual mode, utilizing the unwinder during the changeover. Regular inspections of cups are necessary to visually detect defects such as excessive earling, score marks, ID visibility, pinching, thinning of the cup at the radius, lube, and hairing. If any defective can is detected, the machine must be shut down immediately. The individual will also be responsible for identifying cups by recording the date and shift on the bottom of the cups before sorting them in the sorter of the process control board. Other responsibilities include removing scraps from the die of the press before starting the machine, pulling five consecutive samples for equipment set-up evaluations from the bodymaker after verifying tooling changes, and adding oils to ironers as needed for proper operation. Adjustments to the dome for depth to meet customer specifications, clearing jams from the bodymaker and trimmer, and conducting daily or monthly lubrication on ironers for normal operation of equipment are also part of the job. The individual will identify trim quality problems, check three cans of trimmer every two hours for dimensions, identify the proper size rings to ensure customer specifications are met, and set timing for cup infeed, can blowoff, and discharge pocket for the bodymaker. Operating the ironers and trimmers during daily production runs and adjusting trim heights to meet specifications are essential tasks. The individual will also check the cup elevator for damage or scrap cups after a die jam and perform other related duties as required.
