About the position

The Front End Web Developer position at the Coast Guard Community Services Command involves developing and maintaining the front end of the organization's e-commerce website. Key responsibilities include implementing user interfaces using technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, JQuery, and Liquid. The developer will optimize web pages for maximum speed and scalability, ensuring cross-browser compatibility and addressing any layout issues that may arise. Conducting code reviews and providing constructive feedback to peers is also a significant part of the role. The developer will troubleshoot and debug issues, ensuring that the site remains compliant with ADA standards and analyzing website performance using tools like Google Analytics. Collaboration is a key aspect of this position, as the developer will work closely with designers, back-end developers, and other stakeholders to create responsive, high-performance web pages. They will also collaborate with the UX/UI team to translate designs and wireframes into high-quality code and with the marketing team to implement and track website analytics and A/B testing. Staying updated with the latest industry trends, tools, and technologies is essential for continual improvement in the development process and user experience. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain the front end of the e-commerce website.
  • Implement user interfaces using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, JQuery, and Liquid.
  • Optimize web pages for maximum speed and scalability.
  • Ensure cross-browser compatibility and address layout issues.
  • Conduct code reviews and provide constructive feedback to peers.
  • Troubleshoot and debug issues, providing effective solutions.
  • Keep the site ADA compliant and review current pages for updates.
  • Analyze website performance via Google Analytics.
  • Build new Schema for updates according to team input and needs.
  • Collaborate with designers, back-end developers, and other stakeholders to create responsive, high-performance web pages.
  • Work closely with the UX/UI team to translate designs and wireframes into high-quality code.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to implement and track website analytics and A/B testing.
  • Stay up to date with the latest industry trends, tools, and technologies.

Requirements

  • Associate or bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a high school diploma/GED with one to two years of appropriate front end developer experience.
  • Proficient in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Typescript, Liquid, and modern front-end frameworks/libraries (React, Vue.js, Angular, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of responsive design principles and mobile-first development.
  • Experience with version control systems such as Git.
  • Familiarity with front-end build tools and task runners (Webpack, Gulp, etc.).
  • Knowledge of SEO best practices and web performance optimization techniques and tools for testing these areas.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • A portfolio showcasing relevant projects and code samples.

Nice-to-haves

  • Three to five years analyzing, designing, developing, testing, and implementing software applications in an enterprise/business environment.
  • Previous experience maintaining cyber security standards.
  • Experience with server-side rendering (SSR) and static site generation (SSG).
  • Familiarity with content management systems (CMS) such as WordPress, Shopify, or Magento.
  • Understanding of RESTful APIs and asynchronous request handling.
  • Knowledge of web accessibility standards (WCAG).
  • Experience with animation libraries and techniques (GSAP, Framer Motion, etc.).
