About the position

The Front Gate Clerk position at the Boys & Girls Club of the Los Angeles Harbor serves as the first point of contact for members, parents, and visitors in an after-school program. This role involves handling student registrations, managing data entry, and providing customer assistance while ensuring a secure and organized front desk environment. The clerk is responsible for enforcing identification policies, responding to inquiries, and maintaining communication with staff and parents.

Responsibilities

  • Enforce individual members' identification and guest visitation policies including verification of entry.
  • Provide general information and answer inquiries about the Boys & Girls Clubs of LA Harbor programs and activities.
  • Enter information into the database system and provide reports as needed.
  • Ensure all data remains secure and follow all safety measures.
  • Responsible for sign-in sheets which are organizational legal documents.
  • Share data with staff to facilitate data analysis.
  • Be alert to any situation or condition that requires the attention of a Supervisor.
  • Respond quickly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Assist with the coordination of special events.
  • Keep the front desk clean and organized at all times.
  • Decorate the Front Desk area and update bulletin boards as needed.
  • Assume other duties as assigned.
  • Establish positive rapport with Site Directors, program staff, volunteers, members, and parents.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma is mandatory; college experience is preferred.
  • A minimum of one year clerical and customer service experience.
  • Ability to use common office equipment.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher.
  • Typing/keyboarding skills of at least 40 wpm.
  • Bilingual (Spanish is required for this position).
  • Strong written and verbal communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Highly motivated and dedicated to the organizational mission.
  • Mathematical skills.
  • Strong organization skills with the ability to work on multiple concurrent activities.
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems.
  • Ability to deal with the general public.
  • Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment.
