About the position

The position involves a variety of responsibilities primarily focused on ensuring compliance with HIPAA policies, managing front office duties, and providing clerical support in a medical office setting. The role requires maintaining patient confidentiality, greeting patients and visitors, managing patient check-ins and appointments, handling cash management, and providing telephone support. Additionally, the position includes maintaining records, ensuring safety protocols are followed, and participating in professional development activities. Leadership skills are also emphasized, as the role may involve assisting with the orientation of new staff and demonstrating effective communication with patients and healthcare providers.

Responsibilities

  • Comply with HIPAA policies regarding patient confidentiality and information release.
  • Greet patients, visitors, and vendors courteously and assist with inquiries.
  • Check in patients and verify/update their demographic and insurance information.
  • Facilitate scheduling, canceling, and rescheduling of patient appointments.
  • Coordinate with back office staff for efficient patient flow to providers.
  • Review and edit patient bills and enter charges/payments as needed.
  • Manage cash transactions and reconcile cash drawer at the end of the day.
  • Answer and direct office telephone calls, providing general information to callers.
  • Maintain records and assist with miscellaneous paperwork and filing.
  • Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean work environment.
  • Communicate professionally with patients, staff, and healthcare providers.
  • Participate in required meetings and professional development activities.
  • Demonstrate leadership principles and assist with staff orientation.
  • Maintain office supplies and manage inventory.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or G.E.D. equivalent.
  • One year of related experience, preferably in a medical office setting.
  • Previous exposure to electronic patient management systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate's degree can substitute for the experience requirement.
