About the position

The position involves a variety of responsibilities primarily focused on compliance with HIPAA policies, patient reception, front office duties, cash management, telephone management, clerical support, safety protocols, communication, professional development, leadership, and materials management. The role requires maintaining patient confidentiality, assisting patients and clinical staff, managing patient appointments, handling cash transactions, and providing clerical support. The individual will also be responsible for ensuring a safe work environment and participating in professional development activities.

Responsibilities

  • Complies with all HIPAA policies specifically relating to patient confidentiality and release of information.
  • Greets patients, visitors, and vendors in a prompt, courteous, and helpful manner.
  • Screens visitors and responds to routine requests for directions and paperwork completion assistance.
  • Checks in patients by verifying and/or updating demographic, insurance, and registration information.
  • Facilitates the scheduling, canceling, and rescheduling of patient appointments.
  • Coordinates with back office staff to ensure the timely and efficient flow of patients to the providers.
  • Reviews and edits patient bills generated by providers through the electronic medical record.
  • Checks out patients at the time of service and collects appropriate payment.
  • Answers, screens, and directs office telephone calls in accordance with office procedures.
  • Maintains records appropriate to area and function.
  • Follows all practice protocols and established standards that promote a safe and productive work environment.
  • Communicates in a professional manner with patients, staff, and healthcare providers.
  • Attends required meetings and participates in committees as required.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of leadership principles through interactions with staff and healthcare providers.
  • Maintains office supplies and materials; requests supplies as needed.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or G.E.D. equivalent.
  • One (1) year related experience, preferably in a medical office setting.
  • Previous exposure to electronic patient management systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate's degree can substitute for the experience requirement.
