About the position

The Front Office Clerk at TCC Family Health plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth admission and registration of patients prior to their appointments with medical providers. This position involves accurate data entry of patient information, verifying insurance eligibility, and assisting uninsured patients with enrollment in various programs. The clerk is expected to maintain professionalism and provide excellent customer service while adhering to patient confidentiality policies.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a professional demeanor and excellent customer service with patients, providers, outside agencies, and management staff.
  • Accurately register patient insurance and demographic information in the electronic health record or practice management system.
  • Collect co-payments and patient payments, recording all payments received into the practice management system and cash logs.
  • Verify insurance eligibility using an automated electronic verification system, POS device, or internet.
  • Screen and enroll uninsured patients into various programs for the uninsured.
  • Answer phone calls and send out new appointments and appointment reminders to specific patient populations.
  • Adhere to all patient confidentiality policies and carry out all tasks in a pleasant and respectful manner.
  • Maintain stock of necessary forms and supplies needed for job assignments.
  • Provide information and education to patients on programs for the uninsured.
  • Collaborate with back office staff to achieve efficient workflow.
  • Complete billing reports accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Meet daily benchmarks for completing data entry of patient demographics and insurance information into the electronic health record.
  • Serve as a resource to staff and providers in the use of the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Participate in training new staff members.
  • Answer phone calls, screen callers, relay messages, and greet visitors professionally and compassionately.
  • Complete and prepare various types of administrative medical forms for outside agencies.
  • Process requests for Protected Health Information following TCC protocol.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 1-3 years of experience in a medical office setting preferred.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Typing speed of 35-45 wpm.
  • Knowledge of medical and insurance terminology preferred.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to use mathematical skills to determine program eligibility for patients.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • High level of professionalism and confidentiality.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Practice Management Systems and Electronic Health Records preferred.
  • Familiarity with community health programs and services.
