About the position

The Frontend Engineer & UX/UI Designer role at AWS focuses on helping U.S. Federal agencies implement innovative cloud computing solutions. The position involves designing user experiences and interfaces, developing cloud-based applications, and collaborating with customers to understand their needs and deliver effective solutions. The role requires a strong understanding of application architectures, security best practices, and the ability to work in a customer-facing environment.

Responsibilities

• Develop and deploy user interfaces with integrations to backend services.
• Collaborate with scientists and Application Developers to create solutions for real-world problems.
• Interface with customers to understand their vision and requirements for applications.
• Iterate on the design and functions of user interfaces based on customer feedback.
• Support the development of user interfaces by writing custom scripts and integrating with backend components.
• Assist in testing applications and presenting them to broader audiences.

Requirements

• 4+ years of experience as a user experience (UX) designer, product designer, interaction designer (UI), information architect, or similar role.
• 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
• 2+ years of experience using tools like Figma, Sketch, etc., to design and create interactive mock-ups/wireframes of user interfaces.
• Experience programming with at least one software programming language.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience and technical expertise in cloud computing technologies.
• Experience leading the design, development, and deployment of business software at scale.
• 4+ years of experience building infrastructure to host and serve applications at scale.
• 2+ years of experience building backend infrastructure that integrates with the frontend.
• Strong design skills and the ability to create visually appealing user interfaces.
• Experience building interfaces that meet accessibility standards including Section 508 compliance.
• Experience building interfaces compatible with eReaders for the visually impaired.
