About the position

The Frontend Engineer & UX/UI Designer role at AWS focuses on helping U.S. Federal agencies implement innovative cloud computing solutions. The position requires expertise in designing user experiences and interfaces, as well as building scalable cloud-based applications. The role involves direct customer interaction to understand their needs and develop user-friendly interfaces that integrate with backend services. This position is not remote and requires in-office presence at least one day a week.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deploy user interfaces with integrations to backend services.
  • Collaborate with scientists and Application Developers to create solutions for real-world problems.
  • Interface with customers to understand their vision and requirements for applications.
  • Iterate on the design and functions of user interfaces based on customer feedback.
  • Support the development of user interfaces by writing custom scripts and integrating with backend components.
  • Assist in testing applications and presenting them to broader audiences.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience as a user experience (UX) designer, product designer, interaction designer (UI), information architect, or similar role.
  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
  • 2+ years of experience using tools like Figma, Sketch, etc., to design and create interactive mock-ups/wireframes of user interfaces.
  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience and technical expertise in cloud computing technologies.
  • Experience leading the design, development, and deployment of business software at scale.
  • 4+ years of experience building infrastructure to host and serve applications at scale.
  • 2+ years of experience building backend infrastructure that integrates with the frontend.
  • Strong design skills to create visually appealing user interfaces.
  • Experience building interfaces that meet accessibility standards including Section 508 compliance.
  • Experience building interfaces compatible with eReaders for the visually impaired.
