About the position

The position is responsible for preparing meals at the center, establishing menus, and determining the quantities of food needed. The role emphasizes customer service, hospitality, and student satisfaction while ensuring compliance with food safety and cleanliness standards.

Responsibilities

  • Create and sustain positive working relationships with co-workers.
  • Adhere to all PRH and CSDC policies and procedures, and the Center Operating Procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with food handling, food storage, and area cleanliness according to state, local, and company codes and standards.
  • Prepare daily center meals and ensure they are ready to serve according to schedule.
  • Ensure meals are wholesome and appetizing.
  • Maintain inventory of foodstuffs and request additional food as necessary.
  • Assist in preparing weekly and monthly food service reports.
  • Assist in cleaning and maintaining kitchen and dining areas.
  • Maintain daily record of food costs and amount of food used.
  • Assist in serving meals.
  • Report unsafe or unsanitary conditions in the kitchen/dining area.
  • Check morning report daily to gauge the amount of food that needs to be prepared.
  • Ensure leftover foods are properly covered, stored, and date and time clearly marked.
  • Direct the work of students who are assigned.
  • Keep accountability of all knives during shift.
  • Attend staff training sessions as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • One year of experience in institutional food preparation.
  • Certificate of completion from a culinary/food service training program, or an Associate's degree in Culinary Arts (preferred).
  • Two or more years of experience in addition to ServeSafe certification (preferred).
  • Knowledge of all aspects of food preparation, cooking, and good nutrition.
  • Well-developed habits of personal cleanliness and hygiene.
  • Must meet State or local food handling requirements, whichever are more restrictive.
  • Must obtain and maintain CPR/First Aid certificates.
