About the position

The Field Service Power Automation Engineer serves as a subject matter expert in power system automation and integration, focusing on IEM's custom Low Voltage and Medium Voltage Switchgear products. This role involves supporting and training internal technicians, troubleshooting, commissioning, and performing maintenance on switchgear and related products. The engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams to integrate technologies, optimize systems, and ensure seamless operation with customer SCADA systems.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in development and implementation of power automation system operations, including control systems, monitoring, and data acquisition.
  • Lead and support the field service team on the integration of new automation technologies with existing power system infrastructure.
  • Analyze system performance and implement improvements to enhance efficiency, reliability, and scalability of power control and communication systems.
  • Provide technical and troubleshooting support to the IEM field service team and customers for power automation systems.
  • Assist in managing complex automation field service projects from concept through implementation, including scope definition and scheduling.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for automation systems, including design specifications and operational procedures.
  • Work with engineering, IT, field service, and production teams to ensure alignment of automation strategies with business goals.
  • Ensure all automation solutions comply with relevant industry standards and regulations.
  • Stay up to date with advancements in automation technologies and propose new solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Master's degree (MSEE).
  • 5 years of experience as an electrical engineer.
  • 4 years minimum experience working with power control systems, including PLCs, protective relays, and HMIs.
  • Proficiency in automation programming languages and ladder logic (IEC, Python, Java, SQL, HTML).
  • Experience with industrial power system controls and monitoring technologies.
  • Strong technical ability related to verbal and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional Engineer (PE) License.
  • Experience with power system controls engineering, including ATO programming in PLCs, protective relays, and HMIs.
  • Familiarity with communication protocols such as Modbus/TCP, OPC, DNP3, ARP, IoT, DHCP, HTTP, and IP.
