About the position

The Middle School ELA Instructor at Florida State University Schools (FSUS) is responsible for planning and conducting English Language Arts classes for middle school students. This role involves academic advising, student supervision, and participation in curriculum development and professional development activities. The instructor will assess student abilities, monitor learning progress, and communicate with families to support student growth and academic needs.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and conduct English Language Arts classes for middle school students.
  • Provide academic advising and assist with student supervision.
  • Attend staff conferences and participate in curriculum development activities.
  • Engage in action research and creative endeavors related to teaching.
  • Assess students to evaluate their abilities, strengths, and weaknesses.
  • Challenge students to improve their abilities and address academic needs proactively.
  • Monitor learning progress and communicate with families regarding student performance.
  • Participate in professional development and research aligned with FSUS's mission.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science Degree from an accredited institution.
  • Certification or a Statement of Eligibility for State of Florida ELA Certificate (6-12; Elem 1-6; or Middle General 5-9).
  • Mid-level TESOL Certification.

Nice-to-haves

  • ESOL and Reading Endorsement preferred.
