About the position

The CMS Instructional Designer & Web Design Specialist position at Lansing Community College is a full-time role focused on administering and developing standards, procedures, and guidelines for the Course Management System (CMS). This position plays a crucial role in ensuring that all courses within the CMS meet accessibility and design standards. The specialist will be responsible for developing and facilitating consultations, trainings, and presentations for both small and large groups, focusing on the CMS, core instructional design principles, course accessibility, and the use of educational technology tools. In addition to training and support, the specialist will identify courses that require instructional design development, employing effective methodologies to enhance the learning experience. The role also involves providing leadership and technical support to instructors, helping them integrate advanced HTML content and web applications to improve teaching and learning outcomes. The specialist will manage and develop web content and training materials aimed at enhancing engagement, interactivity, and inclusiveness in the educational environment. Regular on-campus presence is expected, although flexible or hybrid work schedules may be considered based on the needs of the college community.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and develop Course Management System standards and procedures.
  • Facilitate one-on-one, small, and large group consultations and trainings on the Course Management System.
  • Develop and present live training sessions on instructional design, course accessibility, and educational technology tools.
  • Identify courses requiring instructional design development and apply effective methodologies.
  • Provide support and training for students using the Course Management System and educational technologies.
  • Lead and support instructors in integrating HTML content and web applications into their courses.
  • Manage and develop web content to enhance engagement and interactivity in courses.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in creating and applying different technologies to instructional content.
  • Experience in developing web content.
  • Experience in designing and developing trainings.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in instructional design, instructional technology, or a related field.
  • Experience with Course Management Systems.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in designing and developing accessible course content.
