About the position

The FT Medical Assisting & Medical Office Administration Instructor position at Haywood Community College is a 9-month, exempt faculty role focused on delivering high-quality instruction and public service. The instructor will engage in teaching, advising students, developing curriculum, and participating in professional development activities to enhance the educational experience and meet the needs of students and faculty. This role emphasizes leadership, teaching, and facilitation of learning within the medical office administration and medical assisting fields.

Responsibilities

  • Advising students
  • Maintaining office hours
  • Assisting with registration
  • Serving on College committees
  • Developing curriculum
  • Maintaining professional competence
  • Participation in professional development activities
  • Maintain annually updated course syllabi and provide each student with a written statement of course requirements
  • Prepare course materials and use appropriate teaching techniques
  • Conduct evaluations of student performance and assign grades
  • Maintain records of student attendance and grades
  • Maintain posted office hours for student conferences and tutoring
  • Responsible for the development and revision of course content and instructional materials
  • Administer student surveys and discuss results with Department Chair or Program Manager
  • Participate in the development and implementation of articulation programs
  • Provide students with academic and career advisement
  • Work with students and employers in occupational settings
  • Maintain professional skills and subject expertise through continual study and research
  • Donate academic expertise to fulfill community relations goals of the College
  • Serve on faculty and college committees
  • Support and encourage college-sponsored activities
  • May operate college-owned vehicles
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Medical Office Administration, Medical Assisting, Health Information Technology, or closely related field
  • Excellent human relations and communication skills

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience teaching Medical Office Administration and/or Medical Assisting concepts for two years
  • Experience with Moodle course management software
  • Certification in Medical Coding, Medical Assisting, or related health care field
  • Experience in teaching at the secondary level
  • Knowledge of formative and summative assessment
  • Instructional design and strategic planning skills
