About the position

The FT Night Weekend Registered Radiology Technologist at Wellstar Paulding Hospital is responsible for providing safe and effective radiology services during night and weekend shifts. This role requires flexibility in work hours and involves performing a variety of technical procedures, ensuring high-quality diagnostic imaging, and maintaining equipment. The technologist will also assist in patient care, communicate effectively with patients and staff, and participate in the training of new employees.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates ability to adjust technique for optimal patient safety and image quality.
  • Reports equipment malfunctions to supervisor or service provider.
  • Cleans, disinfects, and maintains radiology equipment according to policies.
  • Operates all radiographic equipment safely and competently.
  • Obtains complete clinical history and assesses for contraindications before procedures.
  • Follows procedures for administering contrast media to ensure patient safety.
  • Ensures proper patient identification and uses appropriate markers for imaging.
  • Reviews radiographic images for clinical acceptability and releases patients accordingly.
  • Responds to emergency situations and maintains life support equipment as needed.
  • Assists other technologists in various modalities when required.
  • Observes patient conditions and evaluates the need for physician intervention.
  • Verifies patient identifiers and clinical orders prior to procedures.
  • Ensures patient privacy and comfort during procedures.
  • Demonstrates competence in age-appropriate care and procedures.
  • Organizes schedule and priorities to meet departmental needs.
  • Explains exam purposes to patients to minimize anxiety and facilitate cooperation.
  • Participates in training and orientation of new departmental employees.
  • Maintains accurate and concise documentation of procedures and patient interactions.
  • Produces high-quality images with appropriate techniques and positioning.
  • Checks equipment for operational readiness before use and ensures proper calibration.
  • Sends studies to PACS and ensures all exams are complete in RIS.
  • Restocks supplies and maintains cleanliness in the Diagnostic Imaging Services area.
  • Transports and positions patients for procedures, assisting them as needed.
  • Performs patient charging activities on the day of service.
  • Applies shielding and immobilization devices during procedures.
  • Maintains communication with supervisors regarding responsibilities and issues.
  • Maintains productivity rates comparable to co-workers.
  • Ensures compliance with Joint Commission and regulatory standards.
  • Takes call when necessary and performs other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an AMA approved School of Radiologic Technology.
  • ARRT Radiography certification required upon hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through American Heart Association required.
  • Entry-level position, suitable for recent graduates or those with minimal experience.
  • Excellent communication skills for interaction with patients, staff, and physicians.
  • Ability to function independently and under pressure in a team environment.
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Detail-oriented with the capacity to multitask during shifts.
  • Understanding of anatomy and pathology as it relates to radiology procedures.
