About the position

The Teen & Adult Librarian at Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library (EVPL) is responsible for supporting library operations and enhancing community engagement through educational programs and resources. This full-time position requires collaboration with colleagues to fulfill the library's mission and vision while ensuring patrons have access to necessary resources for learning and exploration. The role involves direct interaction with library patrons, managing community relationships, and providing technology assistance.

Responsibilities

  • Actively engage in community and civic initiatives that support the library's mission.
  • Identify and cultivate community relationships to advance library initiatives.
  • Interact with patrons across various service points to enhance their library experience.
  • Assist patrons with technology-related inquiries, including computers and digital resources.
  • Handle escalated patron interactions with compassion and authority.
  • Curate and create content to support community impact and engagement.
  • Manage library and community resources effectively, including volunteers and materials.
  • Act as a Person in Charge when necessary, employing sound decision-making skills.
  • Facilitate patron interactions in person, over the phone, or virtually.
  • Participate in special projects and other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Master's degree from an ALA-accredited School of Library and/or Information Science.
  • 3+ years of experience in direct customer service.
  • 2+ years of experience with various computer hardware and software systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite products.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Must obtain and maintain Indiana State Library professional librarian LC 3 certification.

Nice-to-haves

  • 2+ years of experience working in a library or relevant area of practice.
  • 2+ years of experience in creating and curating community engagement content.
  • 1+ years of experience in resource management.
  • 1+ years of experience in research and evaluation methodologies.
