About the position

The Vice President of Operations & Facilities Management is responsible for overseeing the operational and facility needs of Luzerne County Community College. This role involves managing various departments, advising the President and Board of Trustees, and ensuring compliance with regulations while maintaining a student-centered focus.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for operations and facilities management of the college, including Physical Plant, Public Safety & Security, PSTI Operations, Food Service Operations, Bookstore Operations, and Educational Conference Center Operations.
  • Advise the President and Board of Trustees on the condition of the operations and facilities of the College.
  • Assist in preparing the capital budget as directed by the President in cooperation with College administrators.
  • Oversee all contracts related to the operations and facilities management of the College.
  • Maintain an accurate and up-to-date accounting system for all College operations, in compliance with rules and regulations of the various funding agencies.
  • Work with college solicitor to assure that proper policies, procedures, and regulations are followed.
  • Participate in facilities master planning specifically the oversight and management of capital budget projects.
  • Assist the President in formulating the operations and facilities policies to be recommended to the Board of Trustees.
  • Attend all College Board of Trustees Meetings.
  • Serve as a member of the President's Leadership Team, assisting with major decisions of the College.
  • Supervise staff, assign work and work schedules, adjust priorities, and conduct performance evaluations of staff.
  • Make recommendations for hiring and/or termination and problem resolution.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Facilities Management, or related field from an accredited institution.
  • Ten (10) years of administrative experience in operations and facilities management in higher education required.
  • Experience in the capital budgeting process and project management within a higher education institution preferred.
  • Experience in managing and executing contracts preferred.
  • Strong commitment to the philosophy and mission of a comprehensive community college.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse population.
  • Ability to plan, develop, implement, and direct all operational and facility needs of the College.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member, prioritize tasks, meet deadlines and assign work to others.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism, confidentiality, composure and a student-centered focus and attitude while carrying out all job responsibilities.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and difficult situations with tact and diplomacy.
  • Ability to adapt to a constantly changing environment with multi-faceted duties.
  • Solid management skills necessary to compute budgets and financial reports.
  • Strong leadership, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office and Internet usage for research and communication.
