About the position

The Fuel Center/Lead Clerk at Fred Meyer is responsible for creating an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service while managing the Fuel department's daily operations. This role involves supervising staff, ensuring safety and cleanliness, achieving sales and profit goals, and maintaining quality assurance standards. The Lead Clerk will also support store management in financial reviews and inventory processes, while embodying the company's core values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Create an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service.
  • Establish and maintain a safe and clean environment for customers.
  • Achieve sales and profit goals for the department.
  • Monitor and control quality assurance standards.
  • Direct and supervise all functions and activities for the Fuel department.
  • Support day-to-day functions of Fuel operations.
  • Encourage associates to deliver excellent customer service.
  • Assist store management in preparing the store/department budget and profit/loss reviews.
  • Participate in the inventory process and maintain awareness of inventory conditions.
  • Train department associates on inventory/stocking and Computer Assisted Ordering (CAO).
  • Process fuel, merchandise, and lottery sales quickly and accurately.
  • Follow opening and closing procedures for the Fuel center.
  • Perform cashier functions, including opening/closing register and completing tender transactions.
  • Comply with safety procedures and identify unsafe conditions to management.
  • Maintain state, local, and company compliance reports and logs.
  • Complete incident and security reports and maintain knowledge of emergency plans.
  • Practice preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment and notifying management of repairs needed.

Requirements

  • Basic math skills (counting, addition, and subtraction).
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations.
  • Any fuel experience is desired.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in store management.
  • Knowledge of inventory processes and Computer Assisted Ordering (CAO).
