About the position

AECOM is seeking a highly talented Mechanical Engineer to be based in Atlanta, GA. The Fuel System Design Engineer will serve as discipline designer leader on projects that include an emphasis on receipt, storage, transfer, and issue of finished fuel products such as aviation jet fuel, diesel fuel, ethanol, and motor gasoline. Projects include tanker truck fuel receipt, marine vessel fuel receipt, aboveground and underground transfer pipelines, aboveground and underground horizontal and vertical fuel storage tanks, and aircraft and tanker truck fuel issue systems. The position will include responsibility for development of discipline specific design execution plans for assigned projects, ensuring that all discipline specific contract requirements have been met, and completing projects on schedule and within the established budgets. The Fuel System Design Engineer will assist in training and supervision of work of junior engineers conducting fuel system design work and will work and coordinate with multidiscipline engineering teams including civil, structural, and electrical engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as discipline designer leader on fuel system projects.
  • Design systems for receipt, storage, transfer, and issue of finished fuel products.
  • Develop discipline specific design execution plans for assigned projects.
  • Ensure projects are completed on schedule and within budget.
  • Assist in training and supervision of junior engineers.
  • Coordinate with multidiscipline engineering teams.

Requirements

  • BA/BS in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.
  • 6 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Experience working with and coordinating with multidiscipline design teams.
  • Fuel system, process engineering, and/or oil and gas design experience.
  • Ability to travel one week per month inside the US and internationally.
  • Experience and ability to use AutoCAD.
  • Hold professional engineer license in at least one state.
  • US Citizenship is required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with surge analysis software and experience adjusting piping systems to reduce or remove the potential for pressure surges.
  • Familiarity with thermal pipe stress analysis software.
  • Experience with Department of Defense (DoD) fuel system design.
  • Familiarity with commercial codes and regulations related to fuel system design.
  • Commercial aviation fuel system design experience.
