About the position

The Fuels Compliance Engineer/Chemical Engineer will be responsible for developing and supporting compliance tools and data for renewable fuel programs, focusing on the Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS) and various Low Carbon Fuels Programs (LCFS). This role involves close collaboration with the Fuels Compliance Manager to ensure adherence to regulatory guidelines and effective communication of technical concepts to stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and maintain compliance requirements with current and future renewable regulatory requirements, primarily the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) and various Low Carbon Fuel Programs (LCFS).
  • Prepare renewable fuel pathway applications and maintain required operations documentation.
  • Report and maintain documentation of evolving LCFS programs and compliance requirements.
  • Coordinate verification activities under California's Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS), Oregon's Clean Fuel Program, Washington's Clean Fuel Program, and Canadian Clean Fuel Regulations.
  • Prepare and submit required RFS and LCFS compliance reports.
  • Perform renewable fuel business internal and external audits under general supervision.
  • Provide support for third-party LCFS verification and annual RFS attestation requirements.
  • Attend quarterly QAP audits for plants.
  • Document regulatory fuels compliance procedures and requirements.
  • Analyze suspected non-compliant situations and interpret regulations, laws, and guidelines that impact compliance.

Requirements

  • B.S. or M.S. degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Geoscience, or other relevant technical degrees from an accredited college.
  • 5+ years of work experience in the environmental or renewable energy industry with strong analytical and statistical skills.
  • Professional experience in GHG emissions reporting, life cycle assessment, sustainability, biofuels, and carbon footprint management.
  • Experience with EPA Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS), California's Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS), and other related regulations.
  • Expertise in environmental life cycle assessment (LCA), LCFS programs, and GREET models.
  • Experience in communicating technical concepts to non-experts, including development of training about LCA, LCFS, GREET, and other technical topics.
  • Familiarity with the GHGenius model is preferred.
  • Ability to prioritize work assignments within deadline constraints.

  • Familiarity with the GHGenius model.
