The Civil and Environmental Practice seeks an enthusiastic and motivated Mechanical or Civil Engineer to join our growing and high-performing Fuel System and Environmental Compliance Team based in Virginia Beach, VA. This position involves planning, executing, and documenting environmental compliance projects related to the storage and distribution of petroleum, oils, and lubricant (POL) facilities and infrastructure for a well-established client. Responsibilities include conducting inventories, inspections, and management plans for Petroleum Storage Tanks (PSTs) and developing spill response and prevention activities, including Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures (SPCC) plans. As part of a multi-disciplinary, collaborative engineering team, you will work closely with staff located in the Virginia Beach office and other Michael Baker offices across the United States. The role offers several opportunities for travel across the US, including Alaska, Hawaii, and territories, as well as internationally to various Department of Defense installations in Europe, Asia, and Africa. Essential duties include supporting a project team of engineers in planning, executing, and documenting environmental engineering projects, preparing complex engineering studies, managing multiple technical projects, evaluating state and federal environmental regulations, and preparing documents for regulatory agencies to obtain required permits. You will also communicate with the project team on technical and administrative requirements, schedule and attend internal meetings, and prepare for site visits by evaluating project scopes of work. Completing site visits will involve meeting with clients and subcontractors to oversee and document environmental compliance work, evaluating subcontractor reports, and preparing technical reports documenting project scopes of work. You will be responsible for completing project technical requirements within established budgets and schedules, performing quality assurance activities, and completing continuing education and training to maintain professional expertise and credentials.
