About the position

Green Effects is seeking a full-time, experienced Full Charge Bookkeeper and Payroll Assistant to join their Accounting/Administrative Team. The role involves comprehensive bookkeeping responsibilities, including managing the general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll duties, and year-end processing. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting, particularly within the construction or trade industry, and will be responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting and maintaining confidentiality in payroll operations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform full charge bookkeeping including general ledger management, bank reconciliation, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
  • Assist with union and certified payroll reports.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
  • Handle year-end processing, including W2s and 1099s, and prepare books for CPA review.
  • Monitor and follow up on past due invoices and ensure timely deposits are made.
  • Maintain accurate records to support general ledger transactions.
  • Conduct monthly reconciliation of bank statements and subsidiary ledgers.
  • Research and resolve discrepancies as needed.
  • Record vendor invoices daily and ensure timely payments to vendors.
  • Verify, edit, and enter payroll time entries to assist the Office Manager with payroll.
  • Resolve payroll discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information and providing solutions.
  • Maintain confidentiality of payroll operations and employee information.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to assist with payroll.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a 2-year degree in accounting or business administration.
  • At least three years of bookkeeping experience, preferably in the construction or trade industry.
  • Proficient in Excel and Word at an intermediate level.
  • Experience with accounting software is required; ComputerEase Accounting Software skills are preferred but not required.
  • Strong analytical and time management skills are essential.
  • Professional, detail-oriented, and well-organized.
  • Knowledge of double entry bookkeeping and job costing is required.
  • Basic knowledge of payroll procedures and processing is necessary.
  • Ability to work independently and resolve issues efficiently.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with ComputerEase software (2 years preferred).
  • Knowledge of construction and/or trade accounting.
