About the position

The City of Oxnard is seeking a highly skilled Full Stack Developer to join their Information Technology department. This role involves designing, developing, and maintaining web applications and services using Python, Django, and PHP. The successful candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software products that meet the city's needs, while also ensuring application performance, security, and user satisfaction.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain web applications and APIs using Python, Django, PHP, and other relevant technologies.
• Collaborate with frontend developers to implement user interfaces and ensure seamless integration between frontend and backend components.
• Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code, following best practices and coding standards.
• Perform unit testing, integration testing, and code reviews to ensure software quality and maintainability.
• Optimize application performance and scalability, identifying and addressing bottlenecks and performance issues.
• Implement security best practices to protect against common web application vulnerabilities.
• Integrate third-party services and APIs to enhance application functionality and user experience.
• Troubleshoot and debug issues reported by users, providing timely resolutions and maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction.
• Stay updated with the latest trends and advancements in web development technologies, sharing knowledge and insights with the team.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of development processes and practices.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cyber Security, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience working as a Full Stack Developer, with expertise in Python, Django, and PHP.
• Proficiency in backend development using Python and Django, with experience in building RESTful APIs and web services.
• Strong understanding of object-oriented programming (OOP) principles and design patterns.
• Proficiency in PHP development, including experience with PHP frameworks such as Laravel or Symfony.
• Familiarity with database systems such as MS SQL Server, MySQL, including database design and optimization.
• Experience in unit testing and excellent documentation skills.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Local government or public sector experience, especially in public safety (police and fire).
• Experience with frontend technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern JavaScript frameworks/libraries (e.g., React, Vue.js).
• Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and collaborative development workflows (e.g., GitFlow).
