About the position

The Asset Protection Coordinator position at Harris Teeter is a full-time hourly role focused on safeguarding the company's assets at a designated store. This position is critical in executing Asset Protection programs aimed at minimizing inventory shortages and ensuring the overall security of the store. The coordinator will be responsible for completing all phases of the Asset Protection certification program, which is essential for understanding and implementing the company's loss prevention strategies effectively. In this role, the Asset Protection Coordinator will collaborate closely with Store Management to oversee the performance of contracted security and law enforcement personnel, if applicable. A significant part of the job involves conducting monthly Asset Protection Associate Awareness Training for newly hired associates, which includes reviewing operational practices related to waste reduction and demonstrating the use of various loss prevention tools and equipment. The coordinator will also become proficient in operating physical security equipment such as alarm systems, CCTV, and POS monitoring systems, and will train Store Management in their use. The coordinator will assist in implementing and reviewing front-end and POS reporting tools, ensuring that Store Management understands Harris Teeter's shoplifting directives. This includes performing Asset Protection audits, conducting weekly audits of vendors, and participating in store inventories. The role requires strong investigative skills to document and report incidents of theft or dishonesty, and may involve testifying in criminal court proceedings on behalf of the company. Adherence to all company policies, including attendance, dress code, and operational procedures, is mandatory.

Responsibilities

  • Complete all phases of the Asset Protection certification program.
  • Partner with Store Management to oversee the performance of contracted security and law enforcement personnel.
  • Conduct monthly Asset Protection Associate Awareness Training for newly hired associates.
  • Train Store Management in the use of physical security equipment including alarm systems, CCTV, and POS monitoring.
  • Assist Store Management in implementing and reviewing front-end and POS reporting tools.
  • Perform Asset Protection audits including DSD, warehouse truck seals, and scan audits.
  • Conduct weekly DSD audits of vendors and ensure compliance with policies.
  • Assist in Safety Improvement Team meetings to minimize accidents.
  • Participate in store inventories for both perishable and non-perishable items.
  • Assist Asset Protection Specialist with high-waste investigations.
  • Document and report incidents of associate dishonesty and professional shoplifting.
  • Testify in criminal court proceedings when required.
  • Adhere to all Harris Teeter policies regarding attendance, dress code, and operational practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Accounting, Business Administration, or Political Science, or two years of direct experience in Retail Loss Prevention.
  • Strong working knowledge of store operations including Cash Office, Front-end, DSD processes, and Inventory Control.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with data entry and basic spreadsheet formulas.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as audit standards and safety rules.
  • Strong investigative, fact-finding, and interviewing skills.
