About the position

As an Assistant Store Manager at ALDI, you will play a crucial role in the management and operation of the store. Your primary responsibilities will include assisting the direct leader in supervising day-to-day store activities, ensuring the overall performance of the store, and managing employee schedules. You will also be tasked with developing operational action plans aimed at improving store performance and identifying training opportunities to foster the growth and development of your team. This position requires a strong understanding of the company's overarching strategy and core values, which you will communicate and model to create a sense of teamwork and membership among employees. In this role, you will monitor the competitive environment within the community and provide feedback to your direct leader regarding necessary adjustments to maintain the store's competitive position. You will also participate in the interviewing process for new store personnel and ensure that all employees adhere to inventory procedures, product handling guidelines, and cash control policies to minimize losses. Your ability to resolve operational customer concerns in the absence of your direct leader will be essential, as will your commitment to maintaining store cleanliness and proper signage at all times. Additionally, you will assist in maintaining proper stock levels through effective product ordering and merchandising strategies to maximize sales. You will supervise the day-to-day operations of your team, ensuring that all responsibilities are completed in a timely and effective manner to provide the highest level of customer service. Compliance with all established company policies and procedures is critical, as is the security and confidentiality of documents and data. This position may also involve other duties as assigned, making adaptability and a proactive approach key attributes for success.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the direct leader with developing and implementing action plans to improve operating results
  • Establishes and communicates job responsibilities and performance expectations to their direct reports
  • Identifies training and development opportunities for direct reports
  • Communicates and models the core values of the organization
  • Monitors the competitive environment and informs the direct leader of necessary adjustments
  • Provides product feedback and recommendations to the direct leader
  • Participates in the interviewing process for store personnel
  • Communicates weekly information, major milestones, developments, and concerns
  • Ensures adherence to inventory procedures, product handling guidelines, and cash control policies
  • Resolves operational customer concerns in the absence of the direct leader
  • Identifies and rectifies hazards, ensuring proper ergonomics and equipment maintenance
  • Maintains store cleanliness standards and proper signage
  • Assists with maintaining proper stock levels through product ordering
  • Merchandises product to maximize sales
  • Ensures quality and freshness of products and accuracy of signage
  • Assists with achieving payroll and total loss budget, inventory counts, and training new employees
  • Supervises day-to-day operations of the team
  • Ensures direct reports complete responsibilities in a timely manner
  • Complies with company policies and procedures while upholding security and confidentiality

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Ability to provide and lead others in prompt and courteous customer service
  • Ability to develop rapport, trust, and open communication with direct reports
  • Ability to interpret and apply company policies and procedures
  • Ability to establish goals and guide employee performance

  • Ability to safely operate equipment including electric/manual hand jack, floor scrubber, and cardboard baler
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to stay organized and multi-task efficiently
  • Meets state and local requirements for handling and selling alcoholic beverages
  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
  • A minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in a retail environment
  • Prior management experience preferred
