About the position

The Assistant Store Manager plays a crucial role in supporting the store's daily operations and management. This position involves supervising staff, ensuring store performance, managing schedules, and developing action plans to enhance operational efficiency. The Assistant Store Manager is also responsible for identifying training opportunities for team members and maintaining a high standard of customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the direct leader with developing and implementing action plans to improve operating results
  • Establishes and communicates job responsibilities and performance expectations to direct reports
  • Identifies training and development opportunities for direct reports
  • Communicates and models the core values of the organization to foster teamwork
  • Monitors the competitive environment and informs the direct leader of necessary adjustments
  • Provides product feedback and recommendations to the direct leader
  • Participates in the interviewing process for store personnel
  • Communicates weekly information, major milestones, and concerns to the team
  • Ensures adherence to inventory procedures and cash control policies
  • Resolves operational customer concerns in the absence of the direct leader
  • Identifies and rectifies hazards, ensuring proper ergonomics
  • Maintains store cleanliness standards and proper signage
  • Assists with maintaining proper stock levels through product ordering
  • Merchandises products to maximize sales
  • Ensures quality and freshness of products and accuracy of signage
  • Assists with achieving payroll and total loss budget, inventory counts, and training new employees
  • Supervises day-to-day operations and escalates issues as necessary
  • Ensures direct reports complete responsibilities timely and effectively
  • Complies with company policies and procedures while upholding security and confidentiality

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to provide prompt and courteous customer service
  • Ability to develop rapport and open communication with direct reports
  • Ability to interpret and apply company policies and procedures
  • Ability to establish goals and guide employee performance
  • Ability to evaluate and drive performance of self and others
  • Ability to understand management principles concerning budgeting and expenses
  • Ability to operate a cash register efficiently and accurately
  • Ability to safely operate equipment including electric/manual hand jack and floor scrubber
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to stay organized and multi-task efficiently
  • Meets state and local requirements for handling and selling alcoholic beverages
  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in a retail environment
  • Prior management experience preferred

Benefits

  • Starting wage of $25.00 per hour with a wage increase to $26.00 in Year 2
  • Full-time position with an average of 38 hours per week
