About the position
The Full Time Case Worker at Samaritan Hospital is responsible for providing essential services to victims and survivors of various crimes, including sexual violence and domestic violence. This role involves crisis counseling, advocacy, and assistance with compensation claims, ensuring a trauma-informed and victim-centered approach. The position also requires collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team and staffing a 24-hour hotline to support victims in crisis situations.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct, supportive services to victims/survivors of crime including crisis intervention, advocacy, counseling, and assistance with NYS Office of Victim Services compensation claims.
- Work within a multi-disciplinary team during acute and emergent response to support victims/survivors through a trauma-informed, victim-centered model.
- Provide support to primary on-call advocates.
- Assist with staffing the programs 24-hour hotline, including a minimum of 1 full weekend shift per month, with opportunities for weekday overnight shifts.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, Criminal Justice, Human Services, or a related field is required.
- Previous experience working with victims of crime and/or 24-hour hotline services is highly preferred.
- Understanding and knowledge of social determinants of health is preferred.
- Must have reliable transportation to meet with clients at hospital locations and attend required monthly meetings.
- Sexual Assault Counselor certification by the New York State Department of Health is required for this position.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in crisis counseling and victim advocacy is a plus.
- Knowledge of community resources for victims of crime.
