About the position

As a Cashier at Lowe's, you will play a crucial role in providing excellent customer service and ensuring a smooth checkout experience for our customers. Your primary responsibilities will include assisting customers at the self-checkout registers, actively engaging with them to understand their needs, and recommending appropriate products and services. You will be responsible for monitoring multiple self-checkout stations, ensuring that customers receive the assistance they need while maintaining a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Your ability to move throughout the checkout area, standing, walking, reaching, bending, and lifting will be essential in ensuring accurate transaction completion and customer satisfaction. In addition to your customer service duties, you will be tasked with ensuring that the register area is well-stocked and functional throughout the day. This includes preparing the area by confirming the functionality of registers and scanners, stocking supplies, and filling coolers and shelves. You will also handle various transactions, including sales, returns, and refunds, while adhering to company guidelines. Your role will require you to respond to EAS alerts, answer incoming phone calls, and assist with the Pick Up In Store customer experience by staging merchandise accurately. Maintaining a clean and safe store environment is another critical aspect of your position. You will be responsible for detecting signs of theft or security risks and communicating them to management. Compliance with housekeeping standards and safety requirements is essential to ensure a secure work environment. You will also operate store equipment as needed, depending on your specific role and department. Overall, your contributions as a Cashier will significantly impact the customer experience at Lowe's, and you will be held accountable for various duties as assigned, ensuring that every customer leaves satisfied and eager to return.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and assist customers at multiple self-checkout registers simultaneously.
  • Proactively greet and engage with customers to recommend products and services.
  • Ensure accurate completion of transactions by moving throughout the checkout area.
  • Thank customers for their business and invite them back to shop at Lowe's.
  • Process sales transactions, returns, and refunds using cash registers and mobile checkout units.
  • Remove security tags, verify product information, and bag merchandise for customers.
  • Respond to EAS alerts and call for assistance to open additional registers during high customer volume.
  • Ensure merchandise is accurately scanned and prepare the register area throughout the day.
  • Inspect returned merchandise for damages and place it in the appropriate areas.
  • Assist with the Pick Up In Store customer experience by picking and staging merchandise.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the store and working areas according to housekeeping standards.
  • Detect signs of shoplifting and communicate them to management and/or Asset Protection.
  • Conduct daily safety reviews and maintain a safe work environment.

Requirements

  • Less than 1 year of experience using a computer, including inputting, accessing, modifying, or outputting information.
  • Less than 1 year of experience standing and navigating throughout checkout areas for extended periods in a retail environment.
  • Less than 1 year of experience actively moving throughout a fast-paced self-checkout area.

Nice-to-haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
